NTA Crew Mentoring Scheme
First day on set as a Camera Trainee
starting
The Writers Club will consist of two (or more) writers groups. Each group will have in-person and online meetings to share work with their peers and facilitators weekly. This will be led by The GALPAL Collective and include informative sessions regarding the writing process, peer to peer feedback, writing exercises, industry guest-led workshops, provided resources and more.
Once a month the groups will meet for an in-person (optional) social event, where all the groups can mingle and form a wider collective of writers. The Club will then end in November 2024 with a larger scale in-person industry event.
The Writers Club will be a space for the writers to develop their skills and a short film projects while receiving feedback from an organically diverse range of people and peers. The club aims to create a cultivation of original storytelling that often doesn't get space to flourish in many development spaces.
All applicants will be asked to submit a short film project that they would like to develop and work on as part of the Club.
The GALPAL Collectives ethos is to support storytellers and creatives as they take their first steps into the film industry, with extra emphasis on working with writers from marginalised and underrepresented backgrounds.
The GALPAL Collective are an arts and media collective, dedicated to the celebration and curation of works by women, queer folk, ethnic minorities and migrants. Set up in 2020, The GALPAL Collective have spearheaded a range of initiatives that serve their mission of community cultivation and support of artists that are oftentimes ignored and underrepresented in the Irish creative sectors. The collective engages with other arts and media organisations having worked with Screen Ireland, the Irish Film Institute, GORM, Rua Red Arts Centre, South Dublin County Council, Diageo, Local Enterprises Office and more.
Dates/Duration: The club will be active from early Aug - Nov 2024.
Applicants must live in Ireland and must be over 18 years old. Please only apply if you are willing to engage in the scheme fully to the best of your ability and availability, as a large part of the Writers Club is peer to peer support and collaboration.
Once applicants meet the above requirements, all new and emerging writers and script editors, who are working or wish to work in live action film and TV are welcome to apply. We are keen to hear from writers from marginalised and underrepresented backgrounds such as those from a lower socio-economic background, women, FLINTA and queer folk, members of the traveller community, migrants and others from ethnic minority backgrounds.
The NTA Film & TV will meet the access requirements of the selected applicants, while adjusting the programme accordingly, and cover the associated costs.

These sessions will focus on a specialised event (including workshop, industry talks and guest speakers) and mixer for all the separate groups to meet up.
We aim to have two of these events take place in Dublin, with others in Galway and/or Cork, this is depending on the needs of the selected writers.
Set times and date will be agreed on at the start of the scheme (e.g online every Wednesday from 6-9pm and in person the first Saturday of each month)
