Course Overview

This two day, in person course running on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd November, 10am-5pm each day at Troy Studios, Co. Limerick is brought to you in partnership with the Hair Guild of Ireland. This course is aimed at anyone interested in pursuing a career in Hair for Film and TV. This course is aimed at applicants with a minimum of 2 years experience in Salon or Hair college along with experience in basic layering and sectioning.

Film & TV Crew Academies courses are open to all regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

The course gives a very practical insight into the work carried out day to day on production in the Hair Department to include hair continuity, ethics onset, understanding call sheets, period hairstyles on men/women.

This course will focus on the practical skills required to work in the hair department and will be an introduction to working in hair for the screen industries. You'll get an overview of the world of a Hair Trainee, on the work they do day-to-day on set, in the studio and on location, as well as the opportunities available to transfer your existing skills into the industry. It will also be delivered in the context of the importance of the soft skills that are so critical in a role that interacts with so many different people, in so many different ways.

Participants will develop checklists and toolkits which will help them to develop procedures and habits that will enhance their effectiveness as Hair Trainees and will give them a taster of what's involved in the Hair Department.

Participant Profile

Conor McAllister

Conor has worked as a hair stylist on film and tv since 1994 working on over 30  movies such as Brave Heart ,Michael Collins, The Actors, Saving Private Ryan, Intermission Space Truckers to name but a few ,His work has also featured in Italian Vogue(Saoirse Ronan) Zoo magazine (Saoirse Ronan) ,Front cover of Detail magazine (Johnathan Reece Myers ) Hollywood news ,Vanity Fair, New York times, Wonderland magazine  along with travelling extensively worldwide as personal hairstylist to Saoirse Ronan on junkets for The Lovely Bones ,The Way Back,  The Host, Justin and the Knights Of Valor, How I Live Now and Hanna. He also, alongside his brother Hugh, owns the largest chain of barber shops in Europe ,The Grafton Barber.
