Course Profile
This studio-essentials course will deliver a broad overview of all the departments in unscripted TV studio production and help equip new entrants with the knowledge and some of the keys skills required to work on unscripted TV studio shows. Participants will gain an appreciation of the broad range of creative departments required to bring a world class TV studio show to screen, whilst gaining insights into the essential skills required to work in a TV studio. FasTrack to Studio aims to demystify pathways to recruitment in TV Studio-based production.
This in-person course is run by the National Talent Academies: Film & TV Crew Academy South.
Course Content:
Getting into Studio - Unpacking PA’s, Assistant and Jnr Roles
Studio Etiquette
Understanding Studio Roles
Understanding studio hierarchies and management structures
Working With Talent / In talent-fronted environments.
Walkie etiquette
How to read or input to the call sheet.
Overview of additional learning resources: DEI / Safe to Create / Duty of Care / Albert Principles.
Understanding the working day, breaks, rights
Working in a high-pressured environment
Managing your own functions and time
Building resilience and getting comfortable with ambiguity
Understanding Studio calls.
Participant Profile:
Media or related college grads, storytellers, technicians or creatives with a passion for TV. Job returners or new entrants, up-skillers or those interested in transferring from other disciplines such as communications, event management, radio, digital content, theatre or film may find this course particularly rewarding.
If shortlisted to participate in this course there may be an opportunity for future work placements when productions come into the region and are looking for new entrants.

Tutors:
Colin Pauser-Cowman is a highly experienced executive and studio producer and leading skills trainer in unscripted genres. With extensive experience in film and television production, Colin is known for his practical, industry-focused teaching and strong track record in developing emerging talent. He has led multiple productions for Irish and international broadcasters over his 35-year career in the sector. He also brings valuable insight from his commissioning roles at Virgin Media Television and with Tourism Ireland, giving him a well-rounded perspective on content development, funding, delivery, and audience engagement.
Eilish Kent is an experienced academic and script specialist with a strong background in screenwriting and television drama development. She has lectured in film and media at institutions including IADT (Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology) and other third-level programmes, where she has mentored emerging writers and creatives. Her work focuses on the development and analysis of TV drama scripts, bringing a deep understanding of story structure, character development, and the craft of writing for screen, and supporting writers to shape compelling, industry-ready projects.
