Film & TV Crew Academy South is managed by Film in Limerick.  

This in-person course is run by National Talent Academies Crew South. The aim of the course is to provide participants with an increased understanding and awareness of the myriad responsibilities of the 1st AC, enabling them to better assist the Focus Pullers they work with in their current roles, on a day-to-day basis.   

Course content:  

Practical Focus Pulling Workshops in small groups: 

• Static, Sliders, and Handheld and the difference a stop makes.
• Building the Camera: Why we choose accessories and how to use them

Discussions and Analysis On:

• The role & responsibilities of the 1st AC.
• Sharps And The Shot: An in-depth analysis of a number of individual shots, what went into achieving them, the thinking behind them, and what we took from them.
• Depth of Field: Your Best Friend, Your Worst Enemy.
• Prep: From Kit Lists to Lens Tests.
• Formats and Field Of View
• Discussion on working with DOPs and Operators.
• Personal and career development - tips, tricks, pitfalls and opportunities.

Participant Profile:  

For 2nd ACs and experienced trainees* (*must have at least one year of credited experience or a minimum of 3 credits for TV drama / Features)
