The National Academy of Film and TV is thrilled to announce a series of Regional Masterclasses titled Mastering Successful Collaborations in Film & TV, in collaboration with local film offices, esteemed film events, and renowned festivals.  

This initiative will span six different locations, each offering an in-person specialised Masterclass led by experienced industry professionals. These sessions will focus on the art of successful collaboration within the dynamic realms of Film and TV and will cover topics such as the role of a producer, the craft of screenwriting, collaborative writing, navigating budgets, the value of short films, and collaborative strategies for post-production.

Directing Masterclass with Nick Kelly

Date: Saturday 30 September, 2:30pm - 4:30pm

Join us at Disappear Here Film Festival for an exciting Director's Masterclass with established Irish Director and Writer, Nick Kelly (The Drummer and the Keeper). This masterclass will provide a very unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into the world of directing film in Ireland. Focusing on creativity and directing skills, our select audience will also learn about career progression and development paths.

Nick Kelly's highly-regarded short film “Shoe” was shortlisted to the last 10 for an Oscar in the Live Action Short category of the 2011 Academy Awards. Nick’s first feature The Drummer And The Keeper had its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh in July 2017, where it won Best Irish First Feature. To date The Drummer And The Keeper has won 18 awards on the global festival circuit. Nick was nominated for Best Screenplay at both the Irish Film and Television Awards and the Writers Guild of Ireland Zebbie Awards in 2018.

The Collaborative Art of Producing for Film & TV with Offline Film Festival 

Date: 15 October, 11:30am to 1:30pm. 

Venue: Dooley’s Hotel, Emmet Square, Townparks, Birr, Co. Offaly. 

Join us for an exciting talk that discusses the role of a producer, where creativity meets innovation. We will be hearing from established producers across multiple platforms within Film and TV Production, including documentary, animation and drama. This masterclass will take place in the heritage town of Birr, Co. Offaly as part of the 14th edition of Offline Film Festival

There will be a brunch networking event as part of this Masterclass.

The Craft of Transitioning from Shorts to TV with Kerry International Film Festival hosted by Ailbhe Keogan

Join us at the 24th edition of the acclaimed Kerry International Film Festival as we discuss the art of directing and screenwriting and how one might create a sustainable career crafting compelling stories. This masterclass will take a practical look at how to transition from shorts to Film and TV. This event will be hosted by Ailbhe Keogan (Joyride, Sunlight, Bad Sisters).

Explore the art of filmmaking from conception to completion in this masterclass led by award-winning director Laura Way (Sugar Stick, Rough Cut), who will take you through the process of directing covering everything from creative storytelling to post-production. In addition to Laura's expertise, Sarah Carraher, Head of Production at Outer Limits Post Production will share invaluable insights, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the strategies and collaborative efforts that propel success in the dynamic realm of film and an overview of the different elements of post production.

In an industry where creativity knows no bounds, this masterclass will shed light on the pivotal role that short films play in progressing your career into film, television, and commercial production. The discussion will delve into the importance of collaboration in the filmmaking process and how fostering partnerships can yield the results you are looking to achieve.
