NTA Film & TV is delighted to announce the nine directors and writer/directors selected for Scéal to Set 2025, an initiative supporting the next generation of Irish screen storytellers.

Led by established writer/director Dathaí Keane, Scéal to Set is an Irish-language mentoring and career development programme. The goal of the programme is to guide Irish-language directors and writer/directors in developing their confidence and skills in working as Gaeilge.

Is clár meantóireachta agus forbartha gairme Gaeilge é Scéal to Set.
Is é an sprioc atá leis an gclár ná stiúrthóirí, nó scríbhneoirí/stiúrthóirí, a bhfuil Gaeilge acu a threorú agus iad ag iarraidh a gcuid muiníne agus a gcuid scileanna i dtaobh a bheith ag obair trí mheán na Gaeilge a fhorbairt.

This year’s cohort showcases a diverse mix of creative voices from across the country, each bringing a unique vision and passion for authentic Irish storytelling.

The 2025 participants are:

  • Bob Gallagher is a writer/director working across drama and documentary, currently in pre-production on his debut feature drama The Song Collector with Homebird Productions.
  • Claire Corrigan is a writer and performer whose TV pilot recently aired on BBC One, alongside other acclaimed work.
  • Daragh Goan is a writer/director living in Donegal. They graduated from TUD P. Dip in Advanced Producing in 2025 and are the founder of Eschaton Productions.
  • David Kennedy is an assistant director and emerging director based in the west of Ireland.
  • Fergus Ó Catháin is a Gaeilgeoir and writer/director from Cork. He won the RTÉ/Filmbase Shortshots competition and is passionate about Irish film and music.
  • Maurice O’Brien is an award-winning director with over 20 years’ experience making acclaimed documentaries.
  • Medb Johnstone is a director based in Dublin.
  • Niamh Bryson is a filmmaker from Dublin. Her debut short film Trasna Na Líne won Best Irish Short Film at the Dublin International Film Festival and is now being developed into a web series with Virgin Media and Vico Films.
  • Luke Morgan is a writer/director from Galway. He is one half of the filmmaking duo “Morgan Brothers.” His short film The Boat (2023) was award-winning in several countries.

Scéal to Set 2025 will begin with a series of online sessions, including case studies on Crá and Báite  and funding clinics with BBC Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen's Irish Language Broadcast Fund , and Coimisiún na Meán.

Participants will then take part in an in-person three-day intensive course in Galway City, under the guidance of mentor Dathaí Keane, with guest speakers from TG4 and working crew. The workshop will focus on building practical knowledge of how Irish-language and dual-language sets operate, collaborating with professional crew who work as Gaeilge, and working directly with fluent Irish-language actors.

"I’m delighted to be partnering once again with the NTA on the Scéal to Set development programme. This initiative continues to be a wonderful platform for emerging voices in Irish language filmmaking, and I’m really looking forward to working closely with this year’s group of talented and passionate filmmakers. " Dathaí Keane
