Featuring interactive workshops from Young Irish Film Makers, the Irish Film Institute, Fresh Film and the National Talent Academies.

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland (Screen Ireland) and the National Talent Academies are delighted to be exhibiting in the Government of Ireland Village alongside the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media at this year’s National Ploughing Championships, taking place from 17-19 September 2024 in Ratheniska, Co. Laois.

Screen Ireland and the National Talent Academies in partnership with Young Irish Film Makers, the Irish Film Institute and Fresh Film will be on site to showcase the wide range of exciting and rewarding career pathways available in the Irish creative screen industry, as well as highlighting useful learning resources, relevant supports, film festivals and events for prospective new entrants, secondary level students, parents and anyone interested in pursuing a career in the sector. 

Across the 3-day event, we are delighted to present a series of interactive experiences for visitors, with no pre-booking required. Simply drop in to the marquee at the scheduled times below to get involved.  

Tuesday, 17th September 2024 - Filmmaking Workshop with Young Irish Film Makers (10am-1.30pm) 

This one-hour interactive workshop will offer visitors the opportunity to get hands-on experience with professional filmmaking equipment such as cameras, lenses, tripods, lights, microphones etc. Professional filmmakers will be on hand to guide participants step-by-step through the filmmaking process and answer questions regarding the different job roles and responsibilities on a film set. 

Wednesday, 18th September 2024 - Animation Showcase & Flipbook Workshop with the Irish Film Institute (12pm-1.30pm and 3.15pm-4.30pm) 

This practical and accessible workshop with a professional animator will offer visitors a glimpse into the creative workflow and processes that go into creating your favourite cartoons on film and TV. Participants will get a quick introduction to the key principles of animation and how animators bring static 2D drawings to life on screen. Under the guidance of an instructor, participants will have the opportunity to create their own animated flipbooks using simple hand-drawn sketches. 

Thursday, 19th September 2024 - Interactive Green Screen Experience with Fresh Film (2pm-3pm) 

This immersive green screen demonstration will give visitors an introduction to the behind the scenes of how visual and special effects are captured and generated on some of today’s most popular science-fiction/fantasy films and TV shows. Participants will be able to physically interact with the green screen and place themselves into a variety of virtual worlds and backgrounds.  

17-19 September 2024 - VR Demonstration with the National Talent Academies 

Using state-of-the-art VR headset and motion sensing controllers, visitors will have the opportunity to explore a range of immersive experiences in artificially generated environments. 

Industry professionals from the National Talent Academies, a Screen Ireland initiative to develop a highly skilled, diverse creative talent and crew base for the Irish film, television, animation and VFX industries, will also be on hand to provide information and answer queries about upcoming skills development courses, networking events, masterclasses, job shadowing, mentoring and work placement opportunities available nationwide. 

The Screen Ireland exhibition stand will be located within the Culture, Creativity, Archaeology and Sport marquee, number 203 - Block 3, Row 12 at the Government of Ireland Village.

About the Government of Ireland Village 

The Government of Ireland is once again bringing an exciting village of interactive demonstrations to the 2024 National Ploughing Championships, from 17-19 September 2024 at Ratheniska, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. 

The village will feature almost 150 exhibitors from a variety of government departments and agencies, under the theme ‘Your Government, Your Community’. 

Visitors to the event will have the chance to engage directly with government teams to learn about the latest supports, services, and policies they are interested in. This year’s event is designed with visitor engagement in mind, with all kinds of hands-on activities and services available for people of all ages.
