The NTAA is delighted to launch our online Working with a Composer workshop with John Vallely.
Working with a Composer is often one of the most creatively rewarding yet technically daunting aspects of production. This workshop bridges that gap, equipping upcoming Animation producers with the vocabulary, legal knowledge, and creative framework needed to successfully manage a musical score from development to delivery.
Key Learning Outcomes:

Defining the "sonic palette" of a project before hiring.

Navigating composer contracts, buyouts, royalties, and sync rights.

Mastering the "Spotting Session": Communicating emotion without needing technical music theory.

Understanding the technical workflow: From MIDI mockups to the final mix.
Module Breakdown:

The Creative Vision: Temp tracks, mood boards, and the "why" of the music.

Sourcing & Contracting: Finding the right fit and where to look.

The Business of Music: Contracts, royalties (IMRO/MCPS), cue sheets, and delivery requirements.

The Collaboration: Spotting & Critiquing.

The Workflow: From DAW to Final Mix (Behind the Scenes).

Practical Workshop: A live "Spotting Session" where participants practice giving creative notes on a scene.
Course Details:
Dates: Wednesday, 25th of February & Thursday, 26th of February.
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
Location: Online via Zoom.
Cost: There is no cost to the participants but places are limited.
Places: 10.
Deadline: Monday, 26th of January at 10am.
Requirements: Candidates must be resident in Ireland and over 18.
