National Talent Academy Crew West presents a two-day online course designed specifically for film and TV crew working in production environments, covering the fundamentals of Movie Magic Scheduling and Movie Magic Budgeting. The course is delivered by industry professional Dewi Griffiths.

 

This practical course is tailored to reflect real on-set workflows, equipping crew with the skills needed to support productions through efficient scheduling and budgeting processes.

 

Movie Magic Scheduling (MMS) is the industry-standard software used by production teams to build and manage shooting schedules. It supports pre-production by breaking down scripts, managing stripboards, and planning efficient shoot days.

Participants will work through scheduling a drama project, with a focus on how scheduling integrates with wider crew workflows. Topics include:

 

Script breakdown and scene data entry

Building and comparing multiple shooting scenarios

Generating reports for cast and crew

Exporting scheduling data into Movie Magic Budgeting

 

Movie Magic Budgeting (MMB) is used across productions to create and manage budgets, from development through to delivery. It enables production teams to build structured, flexible budgets aligned with industry standards.

 

Participants will learn how to build and manage a production budget, including:

 

Selecting and adapting budget templates for your project

Understanding key budgeting tools used by production teams

Workflow tips for efficient budget management

Exporting budgets for funders and production stakeholders

Applicants must be available for both full days.

 

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be 18+ and no longer in full-time education.

 

This course is aimed at crew working in production roles across film and television, from those starting out on set to those looking to strengthen their scheduling and budgeting skills.

 

It is particularly suited to:

 

Production assistants, coordinators, and production managers

Assistant directors and production office staff

Crew looking to step up or formalise their knowledge of Movie Magic

Tutor Profile: 

Dewi has trained film and TV professionals worldwide for over twenty years in Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting. As a Producer running his own company, he was an early adopter of Movie Magic programs. Dewi also utilised Final Draft as a writer, script editor and with his production teams, making Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting workflows central on all his productions. He continues to help set up such workflows in major BBC and independent television projects.
