National Talent Academy Film & TV Drama presents a two-day online course for producers, covering the fundamentals of working with Movie Magic Scheduling and Movie Magic Budgeting, hosted by Dewi Griffiths.

Movie Magic Scheduling (MMS) is the industry-standard software used by productions to create, organise and manage film and television production schedules. It streamlines pre-production by breaking down scripts, managing stripboards, and optimising shooting days. 

 

Over the first day of the course, participants will gain a proficient grasp of scheduling a drama project using this software. In this section, Dewi Griffiths will cover: 

  • Script breakdown and entry of scene data,  
  • Scheduling multiple shooting scenarios for your project in a single file, 
  • Reporting to crew & cast, 
  • Exporting schedule data to Movie Magic Budgeting.  

 

Movie Magic Budgeting (MMB) is the industry-standard software used by productions to create, organise and manage film and television production budgets of any kind. It streamlines pre-production work by using industry standard templates, using tools to organise your budget for efficient data entry, multiple budget scenarios, quick accurate budget changes. 

 

The second day of the course will cover budgeting a drama project using this software. Over the day, Dewi’s comprehensive training course will include: 

  • Selecting and designing a budget template to suit your project 
  • An understanding of the powerful tools built into the software 
  • Workflow tips 
  • Exporting Budgeting data to your funders and team. 

 

Dates/Duration:  

The two-day course will take place online on 9th Mon & 10th Tue March from 10.00am – 4:00pm each day.

Who Can Apply: 

Applicants must be out of education (full time or part time) and 18+. 

This course is aimed at producers of all experience levels, offering a comprehensive introduction to industry-standard scheduling and budgeting practices. It is suitable for producers of all types, including Development Producers, Executive Producers, Creative Producers, Segment Producers, and anyone looking to upskill into a producer role. 

The course is recommended for newcomers to Movie Magic software, or those who use it but feel they are not using the software to its full potential.

This application form will ask you to supply a download link (This will be a link to a folder shared on a service such as Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox etc.) to the following materials:

  • A Personal Statement detailing how this initiative will progress your career (up to 1 page or filmed statement of up to 3 minutes)

Tutor Profile: 

Dewi has trained film and TV professionals worldwide for over twenty years in Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting. As a Producer running his own company, he was an early adopter of Movie Magic programs. Dewi also utilised Final Draft as a writer, script editor and with his production teams, making Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting workflows central on all his productions. He continues to help set up such workflows in major BBC and independent television projects.
