The National Talent Academy for Animation is thrilled to launch our Movie Magic Budgeting X for the Animation Industry workshop with Dewi Griffiths.

 

Course Overview:

Movie Magic Budgeting X is the world’s leading film & TV budgeting software, allowing the planning of projects of any production format at any budget level, and allowing the running of various scenarios such as budget level, location, and comparison of different production plans.

This course is suitable for Animation Line Producers creating budgets to Animation Production Accountants reading and managing the budget information. It is also suited to people who used the older versions of the software wishing to familiarise themselves with the dynamic new interface.

A MMB10 training licence will be provided during the course.

 

Key areas to be discussed during the course:

  1. Key principles in understanding production planning & budgeting, budgeting theory, professional terminology and tips.

  2. Budgeting basics in MMB10.

  3. Template and budget file management & exploring the GUI.

  4. Setting Up the Tools – Currency, Units, Fringes, Locations & Sets, Groups, Globals, Contractual Charges and their uses in budgeting your project.

  5. Workflow - Using these Tools within Your Budget.

  6. Importing data from your Movie Magic Scheduling work.

  7. Entering Rates in Native Currencies.

  8. Calculating Contractual Charges e.g. Contingencies or Production Fees.

  9. Applying Tax Credits/Incentives.

  10. Printing or creating pdfs of your budget, importing from Excel, exporting to Excel.

  11. Sharing Your Budget within the MMBX eco-system.

  12. Creating your own MMBX templates.

Tutor Profile:

Dewi Griffiths entered the film and TV industry in the mid-1980s. He rose through the Assistant Director ranks working his way up to top end TV drama and feature films both in Britain and world wide. Dewi adopted Movie Magic Budgeting when working as a Production Manager and later Line Producer on ITV Network dramas like The Flint Street Nativity and highly complex episodic drama series like Dream Team and Mile High for Sky. As a Producer running his own company, Dewi utilised Final Draft as a writer, script editor and with his production teams, making Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting workflows central to all of his productions. He continues to help set up such workflows in major BBC and independent television projects. Dewi was head hunted by the American Film Institute and University of Southern California Film School to lead the lecturing of Producing and be Head of Production at RSICA, the Middle Eastern Film School based in Jordan. Dewi subsequently joined the University of South Wales heading up MA and BA producing programs. Dewi has trained film and TV professionals worldwide for over twenty years in Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting worldwide. Dewi has trained for Sargent Disc, Moviesoft, Entertainment Partners in Europe and the US, at a number of academic and industrial organisations such as Screen Skills, BECTU, Sgil Cymru, Grand Scheme Media, Crew West Ireland and The National Film and Television School. Dewi has trained such companies as Netflix, Amazon, Working Title, Element, BBC Wales, BBC Scotland, Fulwell 73, Lookout Point, MBC Dubai and a myriad of staff members and freelancers across the UK, Europe, The Middle East and North America.
