The National Talent Academy for VFX is excited to offer 12 participants a place on LiDAR Scanning Techniques for on set VFX.
This course is designed to provide participants with the skills needed to perform comprehensive LiDAR scanning in both indoor and outdoor environments using the RTC360 LiDAR Scanner. It will also briefly cover the requirements and techniques for downloading and processing scan data, as well as the use of drones for tiling and scanning applications.
Course Content:
Day 1
Lidar Equipment, Drone Tracking Markers and Processing Equipment
- Methodology for scanning INT environment
- Methodology for scanning EXT environment
- Brief coverage on the use of drones to scan/tile exterior environments
- Tackling difficult environments/when you can't get enough positions
- Working with VFX Supervisors, crew and sets
Day 2
Importing and processing scans – various formats/mesh/pointclouds
- Solving difficult scans
- Participants capture data INT and EXT
- Participants choose one scan to solve and process
Course Objectives:
This workshop will allow experienced on-set VFX crew to upskill in the area of Lidar Scanning.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to perform 3D scans in a variety of environments using the RTC360 LiDAR Scanner and will have a solid understanding of the processes involved in handling and processing the scan data.

This course is ideally suited for experienced on-set VFX crew seeking to upskill and enhance their employability.
