The National Talent Academy for Animation is thrilled to launch our in-person Introduction to Freelancing for Video Games and Unreal Engine workshop with James Brady, Lead Environment Artist at Gunzilla Games.
Course Overview:
This course will dive into what it takes to be a successful freelance artist in the video games industry. How to network and connect with stakeholders at game studios, how to market yourself as an artist and what the day-to-day looks like for a freelance artist in the video games industry. We will also cover IP protection, setting up your freelance business for success and the importance of on-site security and Non-Disclosure agreements.
We will also be covering an introduction to Unreal Engine, how the latest version of Unreal differs from past revisions of the engine, the importance of being able to utilise a game engine, no matter what your discipline is and how to utilise Unreal Engine in marketing your art.

• How LinkedIn is an invaluable asset to your business.
• Connecting with stakeholders at a game studio.
• The perfect pitch.
• Marketing your portfolio.
• IP Protection/sensitivity.
• Non-disclosure agreements and typical contractor clauses.
• History of Unreal Engine and how Epic have pushed the quality bar.
• The importance of being able to use a game engine.
• Difference between Unreal Engine 5 and past revisions.
• Importing to Unreal Engine.
• Setting up the best scene to render your art for marketing.
