Course Profile:

Film & TV Crew Academy West is managed by Atlantic Academy.

This in-person training will cover Health and Safety for people working in the screen industry in Ireland. Participants will receive a certificate on completion of the course

  • Duties of the employer, department heads, employees and contractors
  • Competent persons
  • Risk assessment
  • Risk mitigation
  • Materials, chemicals and equipment 
  • Practical application of Safety measures

Tutor Profile:

Michael Young

Michael Young is the co-founder and managing director of Vision Safety Consultants, a consultancy specializing in event control and Occupational Safety, Health, and Welfare. He has extensive experience in the field of event management and safety, both nationally and internationally. Within the film industry, Vision Safety Consultants has been involved in various projects, including:

Bigger Stage: Name That Tune, Next level Chef, Beat Shazam, Don't Forget the Lyrics, Kin series 1,Cocaine Bear, Banshees of Inisherin, Winx series 2, Bodkin, Bad Sisters Series 2, The Pope's Exorcist, The Problem with People, Harry Wilde, The Doll Factory, Bring them Down, The Tourist Series 2, Small Things Like These, The Watchers, Small Town Big Story, The Hardacres, Modern Love, Magpie Murders, Provision, Marlowe, The Winter's Child, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Press Measures.

In addition to his work in the film industry, Michael Young has a background in Event Control . He has served as an Event Controller for major events such as Witness, Oxegen, Slane Castle concerts, the 2018 Papal Visit, Croke Park concerts, the Phoenix Park concerts, the Volvo Ocean Race, Skyfest, St. Patrick's Festival, the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and Other Voices, among others.

Michael holds an MSc in Occupational Safety Health and Welfare, He also has a BSc in Architectural Technology and worked for 15 years in this field. Additionally, he is a graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
