First Credit Programme: Trainee Character Animator

First Credit Programme: Trainee Character Animator

The National Talent Academy for Animation is thrilled to announce a fantastic paid work placement opportunity for a Trainee Character Animator - After Effects (Rigged 2D style) with Chimera Animation.

Job Description:

The role is to assist in creating animation for the pilot episode of a children's animated series currently in the development phase of production. The animation style is to be achieved using Joysticks ‘n Sliders and DUIK toolkits in Adobe After Effects (Rigged, 2D cut-out style).

Applicants who are actively pursuing a career in character animation are encouraged to apply. While 2D in style, the animation process to be employed is akin to 3D animation processes as opposed to traditional hand-drawn, so it would suit animators familiar with working in 3D processes (graph editor, key-frame manipulation, tweening, etc.).

Use of Generative AI in your application will not be deemed a demonstration of skill and may be detrimental to any application.

As a trainee character animator, you will:

  • Work through the entire life cycle of shots from layout, to rough, to final polish pass.

  • Work under the guidance and mentorship of an experienced animator/director.

  • Ideally, reach the standard of production-ready junior animator in preparation should the project move to full production.

Requirements:

  • Industry experience is not essential, but candidates must be actively pursuing a career in character animation and provide a demo reel to demonstrate ability (personal and/or college work will be evaluated and considered).

  • Demonstrate a high level of skill in animation and a clear understanding of animation principles.

  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and development.

  • Understanding of animation processes in After Effects and/or 3d software is beneficial.

  • Other attributes will be considered as beneficial to your application (e.g. writing/storytelling talent, illustration/drawing ability, versatility etc.)
