Course Profile:

This course would run over 1 x day on a weekend.  

The aim of this training programme is to provide the necessary skills for experienced crew in the Sound, Camera, DIT, Video Assist, and Electrical departments to better understand the radio spectrum, different types of wireless systems used on set, causes of interference, and how to manage it.

Course Content:

  • On-set RF management
  • Collaboration and coordination of departmental workflow
  • Regulations of the wireless spectrum
  • The basics of radio, wireless, and aerial systems
  • Audio wireless systems
  • Camera wireless systems
  • Drones, lighting, and internet (DIT and video assist) systems
  • Preventing interference and managing the wireless set-up on set and at locations.

Equipment Used

Sound kit, Camera kit, Video kit, DIT kit, DMX wireless lighting kit, spectrum analyser.

Participant Profile:

Experienced Film & TV crew in the Sound, Camera, DIT, Video Assist, and Electrical Departments.

Tutor Profile:

Frank Duffy has over 40 years’ experience in the field of Media and Telecommunications.

Frank had an interest in radio and electronics from an early age, soldering his first digital IC in 1976.  He studied as a Radio Operator in Kevin St. College of Technology, and Atlantic College.

Frank started his career working at a local studio during the introduction of Dolby on “Portrait of a Young Man” and in community radio. He also worked in communications and in Garda Telecoms.

Frank now runs his own business making, maintaining and repairing Film & TV production equipment, and has provided on-set and location wireless consultancy to Vikings over a number of seasons.
