Programme Profile:
Crew Academy East and The Irish Society of Cinematographers propose a new Professional Development Series designed to support emerging cinematographers in developing creative, professional, and technical skills.
This series would deliver a small number of online and in-person sessions for aspiring and emerging cinematographers, including practitioner Q&As, project-based masterclasses, camera equipment demonstrations, and career-focused discussions. The programme would focus on sharing real-world experience, practical decision-making, and routes into professional work, while providing opportunities for participants to ask questions and make industry connections.
Potential sessions:
- Session 1: Working in Cinematography: A Career Q&A
A session with an established Cinematographer that includes a charting of their career journey, a curated Q&A addressing commonly asked Qs, open-floor Q&A, and closing advice.
- Session 2: Making a Living — Career & Money in Cinematography
An honest session about rates, contracts, negotiation, financial planning, and managing freelance work.
- Session 3: Tools of the Trade — Camera Gear Show & Tell + Networking
A collaboration with a camera company where they demonstrate their latest gear. It would be a drop-in event with networking opportunities.
- Session 4: From Script to Screen — Visual Storytelling Masterclass
An experienced Cinematographer breaks down a past project from start to finish inc the script, visual references, working with the Director, shot lists, lighting plans, budget compromises, and final scenes vs original plan.
