These courses will run over two evenings
This online course run by the National Talent Academies: Film & TV Crew Academy East will aid the user in getting a better understanding of the capabilities of Excel and support them in setting up a departmental budget and the tools to maintain it.
This course is part of our Software Skills Series, but may also be done as a standalone.
We will run this course at 2 levels, each applicant must pick just one level to apply for depending on your skill level as outlined below.

Course Descriptions:
Beginners
To be eligible for the Beginners course, you do not need any previous knowledge of Excel, but should have basic Windows, keyboard and mouse skills.
Course Content:
- Excel Overview
- Navigating in Excel
- Understanding workbooks, worksheets, rows, columns, cells
- Toolbars/Ribbons
- Entering data
- Understanding the various mouse cursors
- Moving and Copying between cells
- Learning about calculations (Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide)
- Copying Formulae
- Using AutoSum
- Use the Fill Handle to copy data
- Formatting text – fonts, colour, alignment
- Adding borders and shading
- Column width and row height
- Merging cells
- Using the format painter
- Applying number formats
- Using Auto format
- Inserting and Hiding Columns and Rows
- Insert, Delete and Hiding Rows & Columns
- Insert, Delete and Move Cells
- Formatting of Cells with Number formats, Font formats, Alignment, Borders, colours
- Headers and Footers
- Page Margins& Orientation
- Print ranges
- Creating Charts using the wizard
- Using Multiple sheets
Intermediate
To be eligible for the Intermediate course learners must be able to do the following:
- Create simple formulas such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Copy formulas.
- Be comfortable in the Excel environment (moving between sheets, inserting rows and columns).

- Review of basic formulas
- Copying formulas
- Format Painter
- Conditional formatting
- Charts
- Fixing cells
- Basic If statements
- Sum/Average/Max/Min
- Multiple sheets
- Multiple Files
- Validation
- Database feature- Filtering, Subtotalling, Basic Pivot Tables
- Hyperlinks
- Example will be included and we will cover Budget exercises to allow the participant to ask questions and revise.
Participant Profile:
This course is aimed at crew working in the live-action Film & TV industry who need to create and maintain Excel spreadsheets for their departments.
Each course is limited to 10 participants
