Applications are now open for the “Multi-Camera Television | Training for Directors"
NTA Film & TV, NTA Crew West and Gréasán na Meán Skillnet present a three-day (in-person) course in Directing for Multi-Camera Television, including two theory-based classroom days in advance.
This course will be conducted in a fully functional multi-camera studio in County Galway over 5 days and will offer a comprehensive curriculum aimed at enhancing the skills of aspiring TV directors.
Course Content:
Theory (two days):
-
Going back to basics: what it is to be a director and how this filters through to achieving the aims of the director within a multi-camera environment.
-
The responsibilities of the multi-camera director to production and to crew.
-
Preparing oneself for filming, with detailed tutoring in how to prepare camera scripts, floor plans and how to communicate your vision to cast and crew.
-
The possibilities and potential compromises needed whilst filming with several cameras.
-
Working with actors within the multi-camera environment will be discussed.
Practical (three days):
-
Attendees will each get the opportunity to direct 2 scenes with an experienced crew. It is up to them to provide the cast and crew with all the relevant information needed to fulfil their ambitions for the scene.
-
Working with cameras, sound, art department, floor manager, vision mixer and more, the attendees will be exposed to the reality of directing a multi-camera production.
-
After filming their first scene, attendees will sit in with a professional editor on a rolling basis as they each finish their initial shoots. In conjunction with the editor and course instructor, the strengths and weaknesses of each scene will be discussed with the aim that lessons can be learned and put into practice for the second scene to filmed by each attendee.
