This course will run over 1 day on location in Co. Galway.
Film & TV Crew Academy West is managed by Atlantic Academy.
This in-person course is run by National Talent Academies Crew West. The aim of the course is to provide participants with the basic knowledge required to start on a production in the assistant director's department. It is a practical, hands-on course and will enable participants to hit the ground running on their first day in the AD department.
Course content:
- Communication between set and unit base
- Communication with on-set crew
- Liaising with hair/make-up/costume
- How to be a stand-in
- Walkie etiquette
- Locking off
- Reading call sheets, schedules, DooDs and script revisions.
- Relay calls – standing by, rolling, cut, moving on ect.
- How to cue extras, stunts, action vehicles, animals
- Arranging extras
- Constructing call sheets
- Schedule theory
Participant Profile:
This course is aimed at Next Gen who want to consider the AD department for their career path.

The course is limited to Generation Fleadh participants

Tutor Profile:
Flavia Pordominsky is an Italian-Argentinian Assistant Director who has been making waves in the Irish screen industry since 2017. Her career spans a wide range of international productions for major platforms and broadcasters including Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC, RTÉ, Virgin Media, and Channel 4.
In addition to her work in production, Flavia serves as Director of the Waterford Film Centre, which is evolving into the official film commissioning office of Waterford. She is also the founder of IRIT PRODUCTIONS Ltd, a company dedicated to telling stories that reflect the voices and experiences of Ireland’s evolving society.
