Profile Summary:

This two-day introductory course offers an in-depth look at the fundamentals of working in the Locations Department for film and TV production. Developed in alignment with Screen Ireland’s Competency Framework and the Location Guild of Ireland (LGI)  , it provides practical insights into key location roles, pre-production planning, on-set logistics, sustainability, health & safety, and legal considerations.

 

Topics Covered:

  • An overview of Location Department roles and responsibilities within the Film & TV industry
  • Guidance on pre-production processes including scouting, budgeting, and scheduling
  • In-depth modules on production logistics, sustainability practices, and interdepartmental communication
  • Sessions on legal documentation and council permit processes
  • Health & safety essentials with expert Michael Young ( Zoom pre recorded)
  • Dublin City Council guest session with Lynn Daly (Zoom/pre-recorded)
  • Screen Ireland's case study on SUNPHLOWERS micro budget feature film 
  • Interactive Q&A and a final discussion on membership criteria to LGI

 

Participant Profile:

This course is ideal for emerging talent in the Locations Department, including trainees, assistants, coordinators, unit managers & Assistant Managers, as well as individuals from other departments or the general public who wish to understand the role of the locations department in film & TV  production.

Liz Kenny boasts 25 years of extensive production experience spanning Film, TV, Documentary, and commercials. Her expertise encompasses various genres, including drama, entertainment, and Live OB. Throughout her career, she has excelled in roles such as Location Unit/Production Manager and Producer, contributing to numerous successful productions. Liz has collaborated with renowned production companies and broadcasters worldwide, including RKO, BBC, ITV, Sony, Nickelodeon, Google, MTV, ARTE, RTE, ICON Productions, World 2000, AppleTV, Viacom, Kite Entertainment, Animo, Merman UK. Her impressive credits feature notable dramas like "Braveheart," "Some Mother’s Son," "Innocent S2," and "Bad Sisters S1," as well as TV entertainment programs such as "Operation Transformation," "Squad Goals," "Supergarden," "Quizone," and "Takeaway Titans" latest credits include Studio Manager " Wolfman " Location Manager Limerick  " 4 Kids Walk into a Bank "  Supervising Location Manager " The Amazing Race S36 with CBS " on the board of the Location Guild of Ireland .

 

Mairead Sandford has extensive experience in the area of Location Management in both Film and TV in Ireland and has worked in the industry for over 25 years. Her career has taken her all over the island of Ireland from locations in Derry to West Cork, Wexford to Dublin. Among her many Film and TV and credits are, Braveheart, Michael Collins, Veronica Guerin, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bad Sisters, Bodkin & Small Things Like These.

Her interests include the Irish Language and GAA and she is the current Secretary of The Locations Guild of Ireland.
