This intensive course, brought to you in partnership with the National Film and Television School, UK (NFTS) is modelled on one of the most popular and successful courses run by NFTS, and delivered online. This course introduces the essential principles and practices of the work involved in film and television drama production management.

Participants will learn how to break down a short script that they will schedule, gaining a full understanding of all the elements that go into making up the budget.

The course covers:

  • Role, function, and responsibilities of a drama production manager
  • The production office
  • Breaking down and scheduling a script
  • The principles of budgeting
  • Prep, shoot, and post
  • Production paperwork
  • How does money work and how do we report it
  • Working with the accounts team
  • Irish crew agreements and contracts
  • The unit on location 
  • The unit in the studio
  • HR overview
  • Post-production

There will be a number of specialist guest speakers.

Participant Profile:

This course is aimed at experienced crew, such as Production Coordinators, 1st Assistant Directors, and Location Managers, looking to move into the role of Production Manager in the Film & TV Drama sector.   It is also open to Production Managers who have recently stepped into this role. 

The course is limited to 8 participants

Tutor Profile:

Addie Orfila

Former Head of Production, Addie has 25+ years’ experience within TV and Film. Starting as a trainee continuity announcer and then runner at ITV Yorkshire, Addie has worked her way up as 3rd AD, 1st AD, PM and Head of Production. She has worked on all four of the big UK serial dramas and was Head of Production at Hollyoaks and Production Manager at Coronation Street for very successful tenures. Having worked on multiple location and studio shows, Addie has a large wealth of experience to draw from, is a mentor for Women in Film and Television, was a member of Channel 4’s Mentoring Diversity Network as well as trainer on the pan-industry Project Diamond Diversity monitoring scheme. When not delivering industry training, she teaches at the Northern Film School. Addie designed and is currently delivering the Leadership Essentials course nationwide for HETV Drama Heads of Department on behalf of ScreenSkills and has recently worked as a Production Executive for both the BBC and Lavender Pictures.
