Course: Best Practice for Camera Trainees

Course Profile:
This course is designed to equip camera trainees with the essential skills and knowledge required to perform effectively in a film set environment within the camera department. The course aims to provide best practice training that ensures working camera trainees are confident, fostering job readiness and adaptability in fast-paced production settings.
Course content:
- Overview of the Camera Department.
- Practical use of equipment most often used on set.
- Different Camera Builds.
- How to prep the gear as Camera Trainee and 2nd AC.
- Daily Set Workflow.
- How to handle and clean cinematography lenses.
- How to change lenses in different scenarios. (raining, camera on a
box, camera on a head).
- Marking actors.
- How to use the clapperboard.
- Camera Notes.
- How to stand by on set as 2nd AC.
- Communications & scheduling.
- Adapt to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of film and television production
environments.
- Equipment cleaning, inventory, and rental returns.
- Industry relationships and career strategies.
Participant Profile:
This course is ideal for emerging and experienced Camera Trainees looking to enhance their on-set abilities, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of professional film and television productions. We are looking for participants who have a knowledge-sharing mindset and who can demonstrate their commitment to an on-set mentoring culture.
Please note that this course is limited to 25 participants; we anticipate a large volume of applications.

Tutor Profile:
Camila Gomes started her career as a camera trainee on the famous TV show Vikings, season 6. The dynamic nature of the work required quick learning and adaptability, qualities that the “Vikings Boys” team, of which Camila was the sole female member, embraced and nurtured. With her expertise in running units and loading cameras, along with building the camera in different setups and knowing how to deal with Ronin, coupled with her experience in pulling focus, she has become a valuable member of any production team. She was soon invited to contribute to several major productions across Ireland, including Vikings: Valhalla Season 1, 2, and 3, The Tourist, Sherlock and Daughter, Blue Moon, and Obituary Season 2.
