Course Profile:

This course will run over 2 days

This course will guide the participant through the process of casting, booking, managing, and coordinating extras required for a TV or Film production. It will aim to set a guideline and template for new Extras Coordinators working on small indigenous to large studio productions, covering setup, casting, coordinating, and communications

Key areas to be discussed during the course:

  • Reading and breaking down a script
  • Creating a breakdown
  • Working with Directors
  • Working with the 1st AD and 2nd AD in prep and on set
  • Learning how to read or study Day out of days breakdown
  • Casting, booking, and coordinating extras
  • Coordinating fittings with various departments
  • Coordinating payroll with accounts department or casting agency
  • Release forms and chits
Participant Profile:

This course is aimed at 3rd Assistant Directors, Advanced Trainee Assistant Directors, Crowd Trainee Assistant Directors, Assistant Production Coordinators and Production Assistants currently working in Film & TV Drama.

Tutor Profile: 

David Kennedy has worked as an assistant director across all roles in Film & TV drama for over 15 years specialising in Extras Casting & Coordination and as a Crowd 2nd Assistant Director. He has extensive experience in the Assistant Director department on both Irish and International Film and TV drama. His credits include Penny Dreadful (Showtime), The Turning (Amblin Entertainment/DreamWorks Pictures), Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix), The Professor and the Madman (Voltage Pictures), The Rhythm Section (Paramount Pictures), Calvary (Entertainment One), Foundation - Season 2 (Apple TV), and The Banshees of Inisherin (Searchlight Pictures). He has also worked on a variety of TV commercials, promos, music videos and short films and is currently working as a Casting Director at West Coast Casting, supplying talent to productions in the West of Ireland.
