All-Abilities Casting: Industry Event

All-Abilities Casting: Industry Event

About the event:

Ardán and The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland recently hosted two  All-Abilities Casting workshops, facilitated by Aisling Byrne (Run of the Mill Arts) and Katy Moylan-Shorten (Ali Coffey Casting).

These workshops were for entry and emerging actors with intellectual disabilities who wanted to learn more about the casting process from a casting agent.

In connection to this the NTA Film & TV are excited to host an informal industry event open to casting agents, writers, directors, producers and anyone who are interested in working with talent with intellectual disabilities in an inclusive and accessible way.

As part of this event, there will be a case study & screening of Aisling Byrne’s award-winning short Headspace, followed by a screening of short film's Headspace, Safe as Houses  and Irish Goodbye, all showcasing the recent Irish work of actors with intellectual disabilities.

After the screening we will host a panel conversation with the filmmakers and cast, highlighting the voices of some exciting rising talent. This event will explore the practical and ideological considerations involved in making meaningful industry-wide change.

The goal of this conversation is to highlight the exciting ways of working with actors with ID, with filmmakers and actors sharing their learnings

We will discuss the steps that we,as an industry, need to collectively take in order to make Film & TV more inclusive, more accessible, and to create more meaningful roles for people with ID.
